If I were going to open a shop? Easy — I already have one, right in the heart of Tallinn’s Old Town, the capital of Estonia, on the main street. It’s an antique shop, and the best thing about it is that I get to choose when to open the doors (which, let’s be honest, is almost never if I’m not in the mood… though sometimes I still have to, because, well, it is a shop). The second-best thing? The customers. People from all over the world wander in, and they’re already interesting — even if no purchase happens.
I love that the items in the shop are old, already loved by someone, and not the kind of anonymous, mass-produced “Made in China” stuff you find everywhere today. These objects carry history, and the stories travel across the world to me — even though I do quite a bit of traveling myself. It’s a truly special place in more ways than one. So, if I didn’t already have it, this is exactly the kind of shop I would open.
